Fundraising Ideas

There are many team fundraising ideas, but we've found that activities providing a service that people already spend money on (e.g., yard sales, spaghetti dinners, or car washes) are the most successful.

Below are some quick and easy fundraisers for your team to do before and during Relay.

Dedicate a Luminaria

Dedicate a Luminaria

Relay For Life participants and donors remember loved ones lost to cancer
and honor those battling the disease by dedicating luminaria bags.

The Luminaria Ceremony

The Luminaria Ceremony occurs at every Relay For Life event. As the sun sets, luminaria lining the track light up the night. A hush falls over the crowd that had been overflowing with celebration. Relay For Life participants, survivors, and caregivers then gather to remember loved ones lost to cancer and to honor those whose fight continues.

Luminaria Ceremony at the Dome

As participants take laps around the Carrier Dome turf, luminaria bags are lit up to show the name of someone who has battled cancer. During the first half of the ceremony, the word HOPE is lit up high up in the stands to remember those who have lost their battle and those who are still fighting. Next, the word CURE is lit up to remind everyone why we’re relaying; to help find a cure for cancer.
